Quinta do Peru is one of the most challenging courses in the Lisbon area, set among pine and cork trees in a beautiful country estate, is dotted with a vast range of wild flowers and offers stunning mountain views and can be enjoyed by high and low handicappers.
Located in the Azeitão, Portugal, about 30 minutes south of Lisbon the region is between the castles of Sesimbra and Setúbal, which is well known for its palaces, wines and cheeses.
The American architect Rocky Roquemore was responsible for the project and has designed a course for amateur golfers, but nevertheless representing a challenge for professional players. It was voted amongst the top 10 courses in Portugal in the biennial poll organized by the European Golf magazine.

Both nines start with very demanding par fives and end with equally testing holes, both the 9th and 18th are the only par fours longer than 400 yards on the outward and inward half. Water features prominently at two of the par three holes. The 220-yard 8th and 195-yard 16th are played across lakes to well-guarded greens that may appear very small to those who have turned up expecting a quiet round of golf.

It’s a serious test from the back tees and with some huge American-styled bunkers and water hazards, you should not expect to play to handicap at your first attempt. After eighteen holes there are a number of golf related activities available and also a clubhouse providing excellent views over the surrounding landscape, with the imposing and beautiful Arrabida mountain range in the background.
