Hacienda Riquelme Golf course is a par-72 (6416 mts.), designed by Nicklaus Design is unique among the six courses that make up the Nicklaus Golf Trail. It is located on the ancient estate that bears its name (the Riquelme family are descendants of Guillén Riquelme, a knight who accompanied King Alfonso X on his conquest of Murcia).
The resort has a lovely 19th Century colonial-style building which was the retreat of the Riquelme family and around which the Polaris Group have built an entire golf resort with villas, shops, gymnasium, bars, restaurants and of course a Jack Nicholas Design golf course.
The fairways of the Hacienda Riquelme golf course run between Olive trees, wild flowers and 5 large lakes. They are sown with the latest variety of Paspalum grass which has a high saline tolerance. This leads the grass to stay in tip top condition with less water.
The unique bunkering creates a dramatic look sure to set Riquelme apart from other courses. Many of these large rugged bunkers are very deep with sand flashing in places up to three meters. The edges of the bunkers are cut in a jagged manner further adding to their distinctiveness while accenting the more rugged nature of the course.
With numerous subtle random contours featured on the green, putting is further complicated. The wider than average fairways allow all golf players a great opportunity to play, with plenty of room across the contoured greens, this course is a true challenge for golfers of all levels.
