Calanova Golf Club is situated in the Mijas valley, between the sea and the Mijas Mountains at Costa Del Sol, Spain. Designed by D. Julian Garcia-Mayoral (Aymerich Golf Management) and inaugurated in 2006 this 18 holes and par 72 course (with 5,866 metres in length) as an extraordinary shaping work that will rewards players with an exciting game.

This characteristic will allow a lot of pin positions, from the very simple to the most difficult ones. All of the fairways are wide and clear in the ball drop areas, so players can see the obstacles before hitting the ball. There are sea and mountain views from most holes.

When standing on the first tee the view of a magnificently blue Mediterranean sparkling in the background is quite spectacular and over whelming, a big lake stretches out in front of the tee; for the perfect drive aim to the right of the two fairway bunkers, to give you the perfect angle into the green. The fifth is located down in a valley and recently planted palm trees will be an added value to the panoramic views, this hole requires a straight shot down towards the two bunkers far side of the fairway to set up your 2nd shot. Take one club more for your 2nd shot as the green is uphill & has a large slope back to front.

The signature hole may well prove to be the par-3 sixth, measuring 163 meters it is a delightful challenge, from an elevated tee the view is of a green in a valley below with a small bunker at the front and a larger one to the left with a large lake on the right. The green slopping severely from back to front, is colossal and when the new trees spread their palms the hole will be a photographer’s delight and one which will remain in the memory bank for many a long day. Depending on the wind this hole can be either a long iron or as little as a 9 iron. Aiming to the left hand side of the green is recommended here to avoid the water hazard.

The clubhouse offers privileged views from the terraces towards the ocean and the “Sierra de Mijas”. In short, it is a golf course with a great personality, in a unique location, and which satisfies the highest demands of the experienced player, while being friendly to the style of play of the average player.
